An exhibit exploring the life and art of John James Audubon at the New London Public Museum, 406 S Pearl St, New London. 920-982-8520. Sponsored in part by Northeastern WI Audubon Society.

Admission is free. The museum is located on the lower level of the library. Hours: Tuesday 10-7. Wednesday-Friday 10-5. Saturday 10-2.

Wednesday, January 20. 7:00pm. "The Endangered Karner Blue Butterfly in Wisconsin." Cathy Carnes of the US Fish & Wildlife Service will present information on the butterfly's life history including: its association with wild lupine and ants, where it is found in Wisconsin, and efforts to help conserve it. NEW Audubon monthly program at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, Nature Center-Estuary Room (downstairs), 1660 East Shore Drive, Green Bay. Open to the public.

Tuesday, January 26. 9:00am. "Conservation Lobby Day at the State Capital." Learn how to present issues to congress. Be part of a group of like-minded people presenting their viewpoints on vital conservation issues. 5 pm reception and dinner. No charge (though donations appreciated). Carpooling may be available. February 12-15. Great Backyard Bird Count. Visit www.birdcount.org for instructions and checklist. Count birds for at least 15 minutes and report your findings to be part of a nationwide survey. Help us understand more about the distribution and abundance of birds.

Come and meet a local special education teacher whose students have created a 1000 square foot native landscape on school property in the middle of Green Bay. Saturday March 20, 1:00pm. "Spring Surprise." Join Gary Fewless and Paul Hartman for a look at all of the surprising signs of Spring in the Baird Creek Parkway. Our hike will showcase plant and animal activity taking place despite the snow still on the ground in some spots and despite the chilly overnight temperatures. Global warming in the past, during Early Eocene times (about 54 Ma) likely played a key role in the evolution of the first rodents to appear in North America. Saturday June 19, 1:00pm. "Yoga at Baird Creek." Instead of a hike this month, join Jessica Steffens for a refreshing session of yoga in the park. Meet at Christa McAuliffe Park (3100 Sitka Road) in Green Bay and we'll walk in to Baird Creek Parkway. Pre-registration is required --call 328-3505 or email execdirector@bairdcreek.org to reserve a spot--space is limited. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat, as they will not be provided. Cancelled if weather is inclement.

**June 19 take the bus to the Energy Fair!**

The MREA is coordinating bus transportation. Help reduce the carbon footprint of your visit, and receive a discount on your entrance ticket. Buses feature air conditioning and restroom. Coffee and pastries will be served on the bus each morning to help jumpstart your day! Beverages and snacks will be served on the ride back to help cap off the wonderful trip to the Energy Fair. Bus tickets are $10 each way (purchase 2 for round trip), advance tickets required--no walk-up riders. If you ride the bus round trip you will save $5.00 on fair admission (standard admission fee is $15 adults). Reservations can be made at www.the-mrea.org

Green Bay at 7:00 AM, Sat. June 19: bus leaves the Harmony Cafe at 1660 W Mason St, . The Harmony Cafe will open a early at 6:30 AM to accommodate those who want drinks and food. There is plenty of free parking there or in the Toy R Us lot.

Appleton at 7:40 AM Sat. June 19: bus will stop at the Harmony Cafe at 233 E College Ave. There is free parking in the Lawrence University lot.

Bus will leave the Fair at 7pm Saturday to return you to your starting city.

Help pick the Conservation Priorities for the 2011-2012 legislative session by attending this listening session Members of a wide range of conservation groups–including local lake associations, sportsmen groups, environmental organizations, farming groups and more will come to voice their conservation concerns.  Please help us get the word out. From polluted lakes and invasive species to renewable energy and mercury pollution, we’re sure there will be no shortage of issues to discuss! Please join us at a Listening Session near you. Friday, Aug 27, 4:00 pm. "Monarch Tagging at Barkhausen" Ann Shebesta, the Butterfly Lady of Mishicot, will start with an indoor talk to help us appreciate monarchs and their migration flight to Mexico.  After this orientation and tagging demonstration, we’ll walk to the prairie to find the monarchs. All ages are welcome. Audubon will supply some nets but bring yours if you like. We will be in the field one to two hours--remember to bring your water bottle.

Saturday September 18, 5:00 pm. "Bat Sounds at Barkhausen"  Have you ever heard a bat?  Where do they live and why would we want bats living near us? Do they eat anything besides mosquitos?  What do we need to know to stay safe around them?  Rich Novy has been doing acoustical bat surveys in Northeast WI this summer.  He'll give a presentation to answer these and other questions, then lead us outside with his bat detector to hear the bats living at Barkhausen.  Picnic tables available--you are welcome to bring your supper beforehand. Free event for older children and adults. No pre-registration necessary. Directions: The Barkhausen Interpretive Center is 3 miles north of Green Bay off Hwy 41/141.  Take the Lineville exit East, turn left (north) on Lakeview Drive--the park entrance is 1/4 mile on the right.
